Beginner Class WallhangingClass Description: If you have been wanting to learn to piece a quilt , this is the class for you. Marilyn will cover the basics of piecing a quilt top from learning how to safely use a rotary cutter and techniques needed to make simple blocks. You will have fun making a small wall hanging or baby quilt approximately 50″ X 50″ with nine 12 1/2″ blocks.

**Bring your lunch. Please come a little early to set up your space so class can begin on time.

Class Supply List: If you would like my help in selecting your fabrics for class, please contact me. I’ll make you an appointment to assist you before the day of class.

  1. Sewing machine in good working order (cleaned) and knowledge of how to use it.
  2.  Good thread (i.e. ecru, tan, light grey or color to match your fabric) for piecing
  3. Basic sewing supplies: scissors, seam ripper (yes we will be ripping), filled bobbins, pins, pencil, extra sewing machine needles, etc.
  4. Rotary Cutter, blades, and cutting mat (at least 16” X 24”)
  5. Acrylic rulers (I prefer Creative Grids brand)
    6 ½ x 24 ½ inch ruler – OR – 6 ½ x 18 ½ inch ruler
    12 ½” square ruler with diagonal line
    6 ½” square ruler with diagonal line
  6. Fabric requirements:
    ½ yd cuts of 4 or 5 coordinating fabrics (for blocks)
    ¾ yards of neutral or light for blocks
    ½ yd for sashing (can be bought after 2nd class)
    1 ½ yards for outside border & binding -OR –
    1 yards for outside border and ½ yard for binding

Before Class Requirements: Before class: Rinse (does not need “washing”) and dry fabrics. I recommend using Color Catcher sheets by Shout to help prevent colors running. These can be purchased at HEB or Wal-Mart.

  1. Fill bobbins with the thread you are using for piecing.
  2. Have a new blade in your rotary cutter.
  3. Mark your tools in a way you can identify them.
